There are multiple types of industrial piping with each industry having its own regulations of the piping material and safety.  

The three main types of industrial pipelines are gathering pipelines, transportation pipelines, and distribution pipelines.  

Gathering pipelines are small and short in diameter and length in order to reduce time at the beginning of the process. They are designed to take materials and resources and transfer them from the point of extraction to the next location of a treatment facility.  

Transportation pipelines are designed for long-term transportation through cities. These pipelines are robust and designed to withstand high pressure due to their purpose of carrying materials for long distances.

Distribution pipelines are created to carry materials that are ready to be delivered to their final destination and have gone through the relevant treatment processes.

Process piping Is used to convert materials into a usable form of a product, and this includes converting raw materials, gasses liquids or chemicals. Industrial process piping is an effective method of transporting materials that require conversion such as fluids and materials through facilities. 

Piping for the engineering sector includes a variety of piping materials that can be used, civil and mechanical engineering require industrial piping systems that are responsible and effective in supplying water throughout buildings and disposing of waste waterer. Robust piping materials are required such as cast-iron pipes, PVC pipes and concrete pipes.
